A full aged care issue today.

The government’s financial report identifies that in the 2021-2022 financial year, the federal expenditure on aged care was $24.8 billion. StewartBrown has identified for our Plan B program that an additional $9 billion is required to deliver a 25% pay increase and margins that make aged care sustainable as an operating business.

The AN-ACC funding model is causing “devastating” job losses among allied health workers in residential aged care. An Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA) survey has found that 37% of allied health workers – including physiotherapists, dietitians and occupational therapists – have seen their role or employment change, generally for the worse, and 13% have been let go. The Government promises a review in 12 months’ time, but by then all that aged care IP will be lost.

And an interesting fact: a person living with dementia will spend five times the number of days in hospital compared to people without dementia. More challenges brewing with the baby-boom bubble coming through.

Uniting NSW & ACT’s DA swap a bellwether for aged care operators
